"Most people have their own memory of the Lionel Bart musical interpretation of the Dickens classic, Oliver! Whether this is listening to Food Glorious Food being sung in a school hall or being thrown into a flat cap to be part of Fagin’s gang, it is well known, much loved, but possibly lacking in colour – or so think Upstage Centre Youth Theatre. December 2015 brought Upstage’s 4th annual winter musical, which is has built a reputation to be imaginative, ambitious, energetic and full of theatrical ingenuity. This is was no different for Oliver; with a reimagined orchestration, a blend of different dance styles, a Brechtian take on visuals and a focus on the darker side captured within the original novel, Upstage’s production aimed to fuel a new love for this timeless tale."
